Prison staff injured in riot at HMP Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire

A "small number" of prison officers have been injured in a riot at maximum security jail in Cambridgeshire.

Violence broke out at HMP Whitemoor near March yesterday (Monday 25th February) afternoon.

The prison service said the incident had been resolved but some staff had needed medical treatment.

A spokesperson said: “Staff at HMP Whitemoor successfully resolved an incident on one wing of the prison yesterday afternoon.

“We do not tolerate violence in our prisons and, where incidents like this occur, will always push for the strongest possible punishment for those involved.”

More than 400 category A and B male inmates are housed in the prison. An investigation into the riot will now take place.
