He's not the leader but Luton MP elected to top job in new Independent Group

Luton South MP Gavin Shuker has been elected the 'convenor' of the new Independent Group of disaffected MPs.

The group does not have a leader as it is not yet a party but Mr Shuker will apparently act as chair.

He joined seven other Labour MPs who left their party last week to set up an Independent grouping of MPs in the House of Commons.

Three Conservative MPs including South Cambridgeshire MP Heidi Allen also joined the group.
