An inmate at Bedford Prison's been given an extra year on his sentence for trying to smuggle drugs into the jail.

Joseph Searle, who is 25, was found with nearly 100 grams of cannabis and two syringes hidden in two pairs of trainers brought in by his ex partner.

He was also using an illegal mobile phone inside the jail to make arrangements.

Police praised the work of prison offers who found discovered what was happening.

Bedford Prison has recently been criticised by inspectors but they're hoping the extra sentence will help deter other inmates from smuggling items in.

Searle's former partner was given a suspended sentence.
