Bedfordshire police's canine unit has teamed up with veterinary specialists at a training exercise to get advice about how to stop the dogs getting injured when they're searching for suspects.

Two animal physiotherapists from a local veterinary practice watched on at a routine training exercise at the former Robert the Bruce Middle school in Kempston, which closed in 2016

It gave the them an insight into the challenges that the canines have to face.

The animal specialists also got a chance to see some canine body armour being trialled by the force.

Tracking down suspects can put a strain on the search dogs' limbs, so the force wants to make sure they stay injury free when they're out fighting crime.
