Norwich City produce incredible late comeback against Millwall to return to the top of the Championship
Norwich City 4-3 Millwall
Norwich City produced an incredible late turnaround to beat Millwall 4-3 at a jubilant Carrow Road and extend their winning run to five games.
The Canaries were trailing 3-2 going into injury time, but an equaliser from substitute Jordan Rhodes and a dramatic late winner from Teemu Pukki in the 97th minute sealed a memorable victory.
Former Cambridge United striker Tom Elliott had given Millwall a first-half lead before Pukki levelled just four minutes after the break.
Pukki then missed a golden opportunity to put Norwich ahead after he saw a penalty saved by Ben Amos, but the Canaries did get in front with just 12 minutes to go through Moritz Leitner.
However, their advantage lasted only a matter of seconds, as Ryan Leonard made it 2-2 almost straight away and then Jed Wallace struck a third after a Tim Krul mistake.
Norwich refused to give up though, and Rhodes and Pukki both produced cool finishes in the most frantic of finales to spark wild celebrations in the stands.
After the final whistle, the Norwich players and coaching staff applauded all four corners of the stadium as they and their fans celebrated the unlikeliest of wins.
The result, coupled with Leeds United's 4-1 defeat at West Brom, means the Canaries are now two points clear at the top of the Championship.
Reading 2-2 Ipswich Town
Meanwhile, a late equaliser from Yakou Méïté ensured Ipswich Town had to settle for a 2-2 draw at fellow strugglers Reading.
Ipswich produced another spirited display in Paul Lambert's second game in charge and went ahead through Gwion Edwards inside five minutes.
Méïté scored his first of the match to make it 1-1 moments later, before the in-form Freddie Sears restored Ipswich's lead in the 11th minute.
However, after dominating the first-half, Town dropped deeper after the break and the pressure eventually told when Méïté's late header earned the home side a point.
Ipswich stay bottom of the league, having only won once all season, and are still five points adrift of safety.
“That was one of the best team performances I have seen in my time as a manager in the first-half and that is praise indeed," Lambert said.
“We were absolutely outstanding. We played at a really high level and should have been three or four up at half-time. I don’t think anyone would argue with that.
“For an away team to come here and play like that was fantastic. We scored two good goals as well.
“You expect Reading to come back into it and we are disappointed with the second goal but my god, performance wise I’m really proud of them.
“I’ve told the players that if they play like that then we will win games and we’ll be fine.”
