Luton gang jailed for smuggling £5m worth of cocaine into the UK
A gang of men from Luton who smuggled millions of pounds worth of drugs into the country have been convicted.
Police seized around 45 kilograms of cocaine, with a street value of almost £5 million.
15 kilos of cocaine, worth around £1.5 million, were found in a fast food shop.
Police said the group used contacts from Pakistan and Morocco to sell drugs to criminal gangs across the UK.
The leaders of the gang, Mohammad Waqas, 29, and Mohammad Irfan Khan, 35, were found guilty of conspiracy to supply cocaine following a trial at Luton Crown Court.
Mohammed Aakil, one of the couriers of the group, responsible for ferrying the drugs from one location to another, was also found guilty.
At a separate court hearing earlier this year, fellow drugs courier Rumel Hussain pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cocaine.
Manzor Bhuiyan was convicted of possession with intent to supply cocaine at a separate trial and was jailed for ten years.
Another member of the group, Shaheriz Khan, was jailed for 10 years in May for his part in the conspiracy.
