King's Lynn Stars narrowly missed out on winning their first-ever speedway Premiership title after they were beaten in the Grand Final on aggregate by Poole Pirates.

The Stars lost Monday's first leg by 16 points, but came so close to turning the tie around on home soil at the Adrian Flux Arena - winning 51-39 on the night.

However, it was Poole who were celebrating come the end - despite finishing behind the Stars in the regular season.

"Real credit to Poole and congratulations to them for getting their hands on the trophy," King's Lynn Stars co-promoter Robin Brundle told ITV News Anglia.

"But, we're a little gutted as you can imagine because we did win the Premiership league by quite a margin so to not have the trophy is a little bit bitter for us.

"That's motorsport for you. No excuses, the better team has won on the day - that's how sport should be."
