Northampton Town football club has appointed Keith Curle as their new manager following the departure of Dean Austin.

The Sky Bet League Two strugglers parted company with Dean Austin on Sunday night and have moved swiftly to bring in Curle on a deal until the end of next season.

The 54-year-old has been out of work since the end of last season when hestepped down as Carlisle manager.

Curle started his managerial career with Mansfield Town in 2002 taking the club to the League 2 play off final in his first full season in charge.

As a player, Curle won three England caps and made more than 700 appearances across all four divisions including for Manchester City, Wolves, and Sheffield United.

Curle will be assisted at the PTS Academy Stadium by Colin West.

Northampton are 21st in League Two had have won just once in 12 games in all competitions this season.
