A University of Bedfordshire Course Leader is to have her movie premiered at one of Europe's most prestigious film festivals.

Dr Agnieszka Piotrowska's Escape will premiere at the Festival of Polish Feature Films this year. The film noir, which she produced with Zimbabwean filmmaker Joe Njagu, tells the story of a young man born and bred in London who is told by his mother on her death bed that his father is from Zimbabwe.

The film follows his journeys in Zimbabwe as he learns more about his father and his heritage.

It has been selected from nearly 100 other films to feature in its category at a prestigious Polish film festival.

Dr Piotrowszka, who teaches digital film, said Escape combines the suspense of film noir with the magic of a fairy tale.

The film garnered critical praise at its premiere at the Zimbabwe International Film Festival in 2016, where it was nominated for nine awards. It was also a prize winner at the L.A. Neo Noir Film Festival for its screenplay.

She is currently making a new film, written by Zimbabwean's award-winning writer Stanley Makuwe. Her latest research, exploring power and gender in cinema, is due to be published on November.
