Council bin lorries driven for 3 months without MOTs
An investigation is under way after bin lorries and vans owned by South Norfolk Council were driven around for three months without MOTs.
Seven vehicles from the council's fleet - based at Ketteringham - were affected and one of the vans was involved in a collision during that time.
The authority says early enquiries suggest it was down to a typing error and that a member of staff incorrectly typed 2019 and not 2018 into the maintenance database as the renewal date for a small number of vehicles.
One member of staff has been suspended.
A spokesperson for South Norfolk Council said: "As soon as we were made aware of the situation the vehicles were taken off the road and we immediately arranged for those vehicles to be booked in for MOTs. We also informed the Transport Commissioner.
"Our Ketteringham Depot has been in operation for forty years serving the residents of South Norfolk and this unfortunate administrative error is not a reflection on the hard work and dedication of our bin crews."
