Labour MP Fiona Onasanya charged with perverting the course of justice

Peterborough MP Fiona Onasanya has been charged with perverting the course of justice, it has emerged.

The 34-year-old Labour MP, who won her seat at the General Election in 2017, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on July 12.

Court records show she was charged over allegedly lying about who was behind the wheel of a speeding vehicle.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said: "Fiona Oluyinka Onasanya, 34, from Peterborough has been charged with one count of perverting the course of justice.

"She appeared at Westminster Magistrate's Court on July 12 and is due to appear in court again on August 13."

A Labour Party spokesman said: "It would not be appropriate to comment on an ongoing case."

Ms Onasanya worked as a solicitor prior to becoming an MP.
