Dozens of people across the Anglia region have been honoured by the Queen in the Birthday Honours list.

Mary Beard, the Professor of Classics at the University of Cambridge who made her subject famous in television documentaries, becomes a Dame.

Nobel Prize winning author Kazuo Ishiguro, who studied creative writing at the University of East Anglia, has been given a Knighthood. He said he is "proud of Britain, its open, democratic traditions and literary culture."

The Japanese-born writer, whose most acclaimed works include The Remains Of The Day for which he won the Man Booker Prize, is recognised for his services to literature.

Two of the region's long-serving Conservative MPs in Essex are also honoured. The MP for Epping Forest, Eleanor Laing, becomes a Dame and the MP for Harwich and North Essex, Bernard Jenkin, is now a Knight
