Paul Hurst: Ipswich Town to hold talks with Shrewsbury Town boss
Ipswich Town have confirmed that they have been given permission to speak to Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Hurst over the vacant manager's role at Portman Road.
The 43-year-old has emerged as Town's top target to take over from Mick McCarthy who left the club in April.
The two clubs have now agreed a compensation package for the Yorkshireman who led the Shrews all the way to the League One play-offs before eventually losing 2-1 to Rotherham United in the final at Wembley on Sunday.
Hurst will hold talks with Ipswich owner Marcus Evans over the coming days, and if personal terms can be agreed, an appointment could be made later this week.
Evans had vowed that a new manager would be in place "by the end of May, or the start of June".
Hurst guided Grimsby Town back to the Football League in May 2016, before taking charge of Shrewsbury later that year.
During his time at the club, he managed to get them to within touching distance of an unlikely promotion to The Championship - despite being among the pre-season favourites to be relegated.
