Former England defender Sol Campbell reportedly linked with Ipswich Town job
Former England and Tottenham footballer Sol Campbell is reportedly set to be interviewed by Ipswich Town, as the Championship club search for Mick McCarthy’s successor.
A number of reports suggest the 43-year-old has been put forward as a potential candidate by former Spurs boss David Pleat.
Campbell has been recommended to Ipswich’s board and is expected to hold talks over the job in the next few weeks.
McCarthy left the club by mutual consent earlier this month.
Town boss Marcus Evans is keen to appoint his replacement by the beginning of June.
Evans gave his first on-camera interview since his takeover in 2007 to the club's website on Wednesday and admitted that the time was right for a new person to take up the challenge.
Evans said: "I'm not going to pre-judge a manager.
"They could be young, they could be older, they could be experienced at winning promotion to the Premier League or not.
But overall, I want to find someone who buys into the club's plans."
