Snow and freezing temperatures disrupt weekend football fixtures
Freezing conditions and inches of snow has caused havoc across the country all week with the Anglia region facing some of the worst.
Below is the latest news surrounding football postponements and pitch inspections.
Championship
Barnsley v Norwich City (POSTPONED)
Norwich City's game with Barnsley has been postponed due to the severe weather. A statement on the Barnsley website reads: "The surrounding areas of Oakwell, including the roads, footpaths, car parks and potential travel routes have been deemed unsafe for members of the public to be using. This decision has been taken at the earliest available opportunity, whilst also giving the relevant authorities and members of staff as much time as possible to allow worked to be carried out for the game to go ahead".
The game has been re-arranged to Tuesday 13th March
Ipswich Town v Hull City (POSTPONED)
The game at Portman Road has been postponed. An official statement on Town's website reads: “The safety of the supporters is priority and if we can’t guarantee that with the conditions, then the game can’t go ahead.
“All the concourses and seating needs to be safe for the public to view the match along with the perimeter of the stadium and routes to and from bus stops, car parks and the railway station. This has involved consultation with the local authorities.
The game has been re-arranged to Tuesday 13th March
League One
MK Dons v Bristol Rovers
MK Dons remain hopeful that the game against Bristol Rovers will go ahead. Undersoil heating has been on at Stadium MK has been on since Tuesday. The club have also assured fans that there is a a full gritting programme in place for the car parks and outer-walkways as well as the aisles and concourse inside Stadium MK
Blackpool v Northampton Town (POSTPONED)
Northampton Town's game at Blackpool has been postponed because of a frozen pitch. As of yet no new date has been confirmed but those supporters who had purchased tickets for the game are advised to keep them safe until a new date is known.
Shrewsbury Town v Peterborough United (POSTPONED)
This game has already been called off. A statement on the Shrewsbury Town website read: “We’ve struggled to keep covers down in the last 24-hours with the wind blowing around, so more of the pitch is frozen, but it’s also frozen under the covers further down towards the north end as well, so as much as it is unfortunate it was an easy decision for the referee to make this morning.”
Southend United v Walsall
Southend United's clash against Walsall is yet to be postponed but the club are appealing for volunteers to help clear the pitch. They've already had help from fans but more are needed if they're to get the game on
League Two
Cambridge United v Luton Town
Cambridge United's game against Luton Town has passed an initial pitch inspection. A second inspection will take place at 9:30am tomorrow morning with the match referee Brett Huxtable.
Morecambe v Colchester United (POSTPONED)
Morecambe's pitch failed a midday pitch inspection due to a frozen pitch. For that reason their game has been postponed.
Stevenage v Mansfield Town (POSTPONED)
Stevenage's game with Mansfield Town has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.
