Pioneering Papworth Hospital celebrates 100th birthday
It's exactly 100 years ago today (12 February) since the first patients were treated at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.
In its early days Papworth's wards were actually wooden huts. The great outdoors was considered the best medicine for patients with tuberculosis.
In 1948 it became part of the newly founded NHS.
In 2017 it became the first royal hospital in the East of England after receiving the title from the Queen in September.
