Papworth Hospital: Building on track but still recruiting staff
Work is progressing well on the new Royal Papworth Hospital transplant unit on the Addenbrooke's site in Cambridge.
ITV News Anglia has been invited in to see how work is progressing and to hear how the hospital is still trying to recruit staff to work in what will be one of the NHS's largest centres of transplant technology.
Operating theatres have been designed with input from the medical experts who will use them.
Moving the pioneering transplant unit to state of the art new facilities on the Addenbrooke's site is costing £165m
The hospital will have a tunnel to Addenbrooke's Hospital plus
240 inpatient beds in private, en suite rooms
46 beds in critical care and a separate day case facility
5 state-of- the-art theatres
5 cath labs
2 hybrid theatres
6 inpatient wards
In total the hospital contains two and a half thousand rooms, that's more than one room for each of the 2,000 staff who'll work here.
Many will transfer from the existing hospital. But more will be needed and managers say there are vacancies.
