Mick McCarthy: Ipswich Town boss 'not bothered' whether fans like him or not
Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy insists he's "not bothered" what fans think of him after he was the subject of taunts from away supporters during Saturday's win over Burton Albion.
A last minute free-kick from Bersant Celina won all three points for Town, but before that, the atmosphere in the away end was toxic at times - especially when Burton took the lead through Ben Turner's header.
Fans could be heard asking for Celina to be introduced from the bench for much of the second-half, while chants of "You don't know what you're doing" were also prominent.
That prompted a sweary reaction from McCarthy in the post-match press conference, in which he said:
“There’s more chance of him (Celina) not going on when they start telling me what to do. And yes, I am a belligerent f**k. Let’s just clear that up.”
Speaking to the press again on Monday ahead of Tuesday's long trip to Cardiff City, McCarthy reiterated that he's not about to change for anyone.
"If people don't like me, unlucky, and if they do, then great," he said.
"That's me. I could come in and put a nice, wooden press conference on for you if you like and smile at you all. No, you get what you see. If you like it, great, if you don't - I'm not really bothered."
McCarthy also made it clear that he intends to stay at Portman Road until the end of the season and suggested fans should be careful what they wish for.
"I don't know why they think if I've gone suddenly there's going to be an injection of £20 million to the new manager who's going to spend it all and they're going to run up the league and get promoted," McCarthy said.
"Somebody might come in and do a better job, and if I've gone, good luck to them.
"But, you're going to be getting me for the meantime - and that's it."
