Up to 300 jobs are to be cut at an aerospace company in Cambridge.

Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group said the redundancies would help the company remain "competitive and sustainable".

The family-run business, based at Cambridge airport, employs more than 5,000 people and has a turnover of more than £2 billion.

Their contracts include maintaining the C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft for the RAF.

In a statement Marshall ADG said: "Our underlying core business is strong and we are continuing to support our many customers and invest heavily in the business; including the recent £20m upgrade of the Cambridge Airport’srunway and infrastructure.

"We are building a new, simpler business operating model, which is modern, flexible and affordable.

"This is a significant change to the business which will, regrettably, impact on the number of people within the Company and we have begun consultation on a proposed reduction of up to 300 positions throughout the organistation, at all levels."
