Farcical EFL Cup draw leaves Norwich City and Ipswich Town baffled

Norwich City and Ipswich Town were both left baffled following last night's confusing EFL Cup draw.

The regionalised draw for the second round was made live on Sky Sports, but proceedings started to go wrong when several ties were announced with the incorrect teams away from home.

The seeded teams, which included Norwich, were meant to be drawn out first before they then discovered their opponents and whether they'd be home or away.

However, things got complicated when the TV hosts announced that Norwich would be away to Charlton - even though they'd actually been drawn at home.

The same was the case for Ipswich who were originally told they'd be hosting Crystal Palace at Portman Road, before it was eventually made clear that the match will take place at Selhurst Park instead.

All of the clubs involved saw the funny side, with Ipswich and Crystal Palace proposing to meet halfway!

Elsewhere, MK Dons were handed a home tie against Premier League side Swansea City.

The Dons will be hopeful of replicating their exploits in the same competition in 2014 when they famously beat Manchester United 4-0.

All the games be played in the week commencing Monday, 21 August.

The second round ties involving our teams (we think!):

  • Crystal Palace v Ipswich Town

  • Norwich City v Charlton Athletic

  • MK Dons v Swansea City
