New Ipswich Town signing Tom Adeyemi admits it was an "easy decision" to join the club - despite reported interest from East Anglian rivals Norwich City.

The 25-year-old completed a move to the Blues on a free transfer on Friday after his deal at Cardiff City came to an end.

His impressive form for relegated Rotherham United last season had reportedly caught the attention of other clubs, including Norwich where Adeyemi started his career, but he says he always had his heart set on becoming a Town player.

Town boss Mick McCarthy believes Adeyemi will be a big asset to his side moving forward, and has backed him to make an impression in Suffolk.

“Tom is coming into his prime at 25, he has played 220 or so League games so he is very experienced and he showed last season that he carries a goal threat," McCarthy said.

“He scored seven goals from midfield at a team that got relegated. That tells you something about the ability he has got. That’s more than we got from our midfield players last season.

“He has got a lot of attributes and I know there were a lot of clubs interested in him. He comes across as a really good person as well, which is important. He will fit in perfectly for us and I’m delighted we’ve got him.”
