  • Video report by ITV News Anglia's Hannah Pettifer

The new Labour MP for Ipswich is preparing to take his seat in the House of Commons.

Sandy Martin defeated the Conservative Ben Gummer, who was one of the architects of Theresa May's ill-fated election campaign.

Ben Gummer, who had been the town's MP since 2010, got 23,393 votes compared with 24,224 votes for Labour's Sandy Martin.

Mr Gummer said he leaves with a great sense of pride and gratitude to the people of Ipswich.

Mr Martin says he already has a grip on the issues that affect the town, including rethinking plans for the Upper Orwell Crossings.
