Northampton Saints have announced that there will increased security measures at their European Rugby Champions Cup qualification play-off against Stade Français on Friday night.

The move has been taken in response to the terror threat level being raised to 'critical' in the wake of Monday's attack in Manchester.

Fans attending the game at Franklin's Gardens will have their bags searched at the turnstiles, while there'll also be extra patrols around the stadium.

As a result, supporters have been asked to set off for the game earlier because it will probably take longer than normal to get into the ground.

What measures have been put in place?

  • Every bag will be searched at the turnstiles

  • Supporters wearing jackets will be required to unzip them before entry will be granted

  • Safety team and security personnel will be patrolling the exterior of the stadium throughout the match. Furthermore, stewards will manage the entrances into the car parks throughout the game, and there will be enhanced stewarding at all exit points
