70,000 dogs in the East still aren't microchipped despite law coming in a year ago making it compulsory

The good news is the vast majority of dogs - 91 per cent here in the East - are chipped meaning they can be reunited with their families if they are lost or stolen.

One year on from the introduction of the law 91% of dogs in the East of England are now fitted with a microchip.

The government is pleased with the take up rate and says the number of stray dogs is at a record low.

But the dog welfare charity, The Dogs Trust, says it's important to get the remaining 9% of dog owners to comply with the law.
