James Taylor: Retired England star joins Northamptonshire coaching staff
Former England batsman James Taylor has joined Northamptonshire's coaching staff ahead of this summer's Royal London One-Day Cup.
The 27-year-old had to unexpectedly quit the sport in April 2016 after he was diagnosed with a serious heart condition.
He has since been doing a lot of work in the media as well as coaching Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire's academies, but will now take on a role as a coaching consultant for Northants' 50-over campaign.
As an England player, Taylor averaged 42.23 in 27 one-day internationals and Steelbacks Head Coach David Ripley believes his experience will be vital.
Taylor himself said that he was excited to be given the chance to work with the squad and pass on his advice.
“I’m excited – They are a skilful side who have clearly done well in One-Day Cricket in the past," he said.
"I spent a bit of time commentating at The County Ground last season and am keen to offer up my expertise to the squad.
“Whilst my focus will no doubt be on the batsmen, I will be on hand to assist across all areas. I can’t wait to get started.”
Former captain David Sales has also returned to the county as a part-time batting coach.
