Alan Irvine: Norwich City interim boss expecting Barnsley game to be his last
Norwich City caretaker manager Alan Irvine says he doesn't expect to still be in charge of the club beyond tomorrow's game against Barnsley.
The Scot has been asked to look after the first team following Alex Neil's sacking, but isn't interested in taking the job on a full-time basis.
The upcoming international break means that the Norwich board will have a two-week window to appoint a new manager before their next match against Aston Villa, and Irvine believes there could be movement by the time that fixture arrives.
Irvine also reiterated that he won't be applying for the role after promising former boss Alex Neil that he wouldn't step on his toes.
"I spoke to Alex right at the beginning when he first called me and said to him that I wasn't a threat to him," Irvine said.
"He may have felt that with my background and experience, I could possibly have been that.
"I put his mind at rest in our very first conversation and I won't go back on that."
Irvine could be boosted by the return of two key players for the visit of Barnsley, with striker Nélson Oliveira and midfielder Graham Dorrans both back in contention after recovering from injuries.
Defender Timm Klose is in the mix to play at Carrow Road too, but left-back Mitchell Dijks is suspended.
Youssouf Mulumbu remains on the sidelines, while Louis Thompson is a long-term absentee.
