Massive spider discovered in a crate from Japan

The giant Huntsman spider discovered in a crate in Suffolk

Workers at a storage company near Stowmarket in Suffolk had a surprise when they opened a shipping container to unload goods and found a huge spider inside.

They called in the RSPCA as staff weren't sure what to do with the giant arachnid which had scuttled out of the container, having stowed away in Japan.

The spiders, usually from Australia, are large and can grow to more than 15cm in size, but they are generally harmless.

The spider, which had been confined in the container by the workers, was collected by an RSPCA inspector and taken to a local exotic animal specialist.
