Woman handed life sentence for murdering sister with chicken-shaped ceramic pot
Video report by ITV News Anglia's Russell Hookey
A woman who disguised herself as a man before murdering her half-sister with a chicken-shaped casserole pot has been handed a life sentence.
Yvonne Caylor, from Hitchin, killed Nicki Collingbourne at her flat in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, on 23 May.
She had put on a goatee beard, wig, heavy framed glasses and a hi-vis jacket before knocking on Collingbourne's door.
Watch Yvonne Caylor in disguise moments before she murdered her half-sister:
A court how Collingbourne, 26, was afraid of 53-year-old Caylor, and would not have opened the door if she had known it was her.
When Collingbourne realised it was her half-sister she tried to shut the door, but Caylor barged in and attacked her with the pot.
Caylor then spent more than three hours clearing up her crime in an attempt to make her sister's death appear as a suicide.
Collingbourne was found lying in a pool of blood in her underwear by members of her family later that evening.
On Wednesday Caylor was sentenced to a minimum of 19 years and 161 days in prison, after being found guilty of murder at Luton Crown Court.
Before the killing, Caylor was due to face trial for burgling Collingbourne's flat and perverting the course of justice.
The charges came after Collingbourne had evicted Caylor from her flat in October last year.
Caylor complained to the police that she had been assaulted. When police questioned Collingbourne, the prosecution said she burgled the flat. No action was taken against Collingbourne, but Caylor herself was arrested.
After the sentencing, Collingbourne's family paid tribute to her, describing her as a "beautiful young woman with a beautiful soul".
