It's been stationary for almost a century, but a railway carriage that was built in the 1890s is about to be back on the move.

The carriage has been in Karin Abram's family for 60 years - it was part of the bargain when her grandfather bought the family home near Fakenham in Norfolk.

Karin sold it to friends in Cambridge 3 years ago when she no longer had space for it at home, but now they are downsizing too - meaning the carriage is up for sale.

Built in Norfolk in the 1890s, the carriage ran on the line between Norwich and Leicester. One of many sold off by the railways after the First World War - it was bought for a penny by a man who lived in it at Langor Bridge near Fakenham for the next 20 years.

The carriage is 27 metres long and has two rooms. The larger would have been the guards carriage and the adjoining, smaller room was a 3rd class passenger carriage. A century on, some of the original features are still intact including a bench that the guard would have sat on and 'Smoking' signs on the windows.

Karin's friends David and Jadwiga are hoping the carriage will fetch around £6000. Among the prospective buyers have been people who want to turn it into a tearoom or an Airbnb business
