MPs are to debate whether police animals should be given greater rights if they're injured in the line of duty, following an attack on a dog in Stevenage.

German shepherd Finn nearly died after he was stabbed in the head and chest while trying to apprehend a suspected robber.

PC Dave Wardell, Finn's handler, was stabbed in the hand during the attack.

This is seen as actual bodily harm but Finn's injuries are only considered criminal damage by law.

A 16-year-old-boy has been charged with criminal damage.

The attack sparked a petition for 'Finn's Law' calling for animals to have the same rights as officers. It has reached more than 118,000 signatures.

Parliament considers all petitions that get more than 100,000 signatures for a debate.

Finn's job is to defend the law but he could be about to change it.
