£13m will return Norwich Castle into a palace fit for a Norman king
Did you know that Norwich Castle is considered to be one of the most spectacular medieval keeps in Europe? It was one of the first castles to be built after the Norman Conquest in 1066.
And because it's so special £13m pounds is being spent on it so it can be just like it was when Henry I was king even though he only stayed there once or twice !
Construction won't begin until 2018 - it'll mean putting back the Norman floor at the level where the balcony is today to recreate the Great Hall complete with banqueting table, minstrels gallery, king's chamber and chapel. Most of the money has come from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
