Newcastle United 4-3 Norwich City (Att: 48,236)

Norwich City manager Alex Neil admitted he couldn't believe what he'd seen after his team conceded twice in injury time to lose 4-3 at promotion rivals Newcastle United.

The Canaries were leading 3-2 going into the 94th minute but a quickfire double from Yoan Gouffran and Dwight Gayle turned the game on its head to cue pandemonium at St James' Park.

Norwich were second best in the opening stages of the match and deservedly fell behind when Gayle poked the ball home from close range just before the half hour mark.

However, that seemed to spring them into life and they drew level when Graham Dorrans converted from the penalty spot following a foul on Robbie Brady.

Norwich then raced into a 3-1 lead after the break thanks to goals from Cameron Jerome and Jacob Murphy but Gayle quickly pulled one back before completing his hat-trick in the most dramatic fashion possible.

"I thought it was absolutely unbelievable," he told the club's official website.

"In stoppage time, for the first three minutes we were fine, we cleared our lines and we won our headers, and they didn't do anything out of the ordinary.

"You go and head it, you kick it, you clear your lines and you see the game out. Teams do it up and down the country week-in, week-out.

"All we needed to do was clear our lines, but we don't. It dropped to Gayle and he sticks it in the net, and it was so frustrating because we had done enough to win the game."

Despite the defeat, Norwich remain second in The Championship and will be hoping to bounce back quickly when they take on Wolves at Molineux on Saturday evening.
