The funeral of a Polish man who was killed in a suspected hate crime took place in Essex today.

Arkadiusz Jozwik, known as Arek, was attacked last month in the Stow shopping area of Harlow and died a few days later. Six teenagers have been arrested in connection with his death.

The 40-year-old factory worker was cremated at the Parndon Wood Cemetery and Crematorium following a memorial service.

Friend Eric Hind said he had been in close contact with Mr Jozwik's brother Radek Jozwik and two nephews.

Mr Hind said his elder nephew had visited his uncle in hospital.

Mr Hind said the funeral was just the start of a long process for the family as they attempted to move on from Mr Jozwik's death. He said they now wanted to see the people responsible for his friend's death taken to court.

A public ceremony in memory of Mr Jozwik will take place tomorrow at the crematorium.
