A second busway could be built in Cambridge in a bid to reduce journey times for people travelling to and from Cambourne and ease congestion.

The off-road route is recommended for approval by the Greater Cambridge City Joint Assembly.

It would see a dedicated busway, similar to the one between St Ives and Cambridge although not on guided rails, a new cycle route and park and ride site built.

Officials claim it would reduce journey times between the city centre and Cambourne to 28 minutes - and would help the development of more houses and jobs in the future.

They have also ruled out a route which would potentially impact on the 800 Wood and American War Cemetery at Madingley.

The scheme would cost £141,833 and planners believe it would help the city cope with further growth in the future.

The recommended route will be considered by the City Deal executive board at a meeting next month.
