Man, 87, held after woman in her 80s found dead at care home

A woman who was found dead at a social housing site near St Neots has been named locally as 86-year-old Jean Constant.

Police were called to Poppyfields in Chapman Way, near St Neots in Cambridgeshire at around 5pm on Monday afternoon after reports of "serious concerns for the safety of a man and a woman".

An 87-year-old man was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge in a stable condition after he was found injured.

He was later arrested on suspicion of murder and remains at Parkside Police Station in Cambridge.

Officers "are not looking for anyone else in connection" with the incident.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out later.

A local resident said he was terrified to hear of the news.

"We were terrified. We didn't know what was going on," Richard Cviklovic said.

"This is a very quiet area, very nice area. It was just very shocking to us, to see all these police cars and after we read on the internet what happened, it was even more shocking."
