Chelmsford diver Rebecca Gallantree came up short in the final of the Women's 3 metre synchronised springboard event last night, finishing sixth.

The 31-year-old and her partner Alicia Blagg put in a credible performance, and were joint third after the first two rounds.

However, they lost ground at the final stage to finish outside a medal position.

The gold went to China's Wu Minxia and Shi Tingmao.

  • Colin Oates (Judo)

Norfolk Judoka Colin Oates admits he's considering his future after he suffered a surprise defeat in the 66kg category by France's Kilian Le Blouch in Rio.

The 33-year-old was knocked out on a controversial penalty decision after the tie went to a golden score.

Oates has since been quoted as saying that he may now consider retiring.

It was a disappointing day for Team GB in the women's road race, as medal hope Lizzie Armitstead could only finish fifth.

The gruelling course took its toll on many riders, including Norwich's Emma Pooley who didn't complete the course.

The race was won by Holland's Anna van der Breggen but was overshadowed by a serious injury to her Dutch teammate Annemiek van Vleuten.

Team GB picked up their first medals of the Games in the pool in the early hours of this morning, with Adam Peaty and Jazz Carlin winning gold and silver respectively.

Things didn't go so well for Bury St Edmunds' Chris Walker-Hebborn though who was eliminated from the men’s 100m backstroke in the semi-finals.

Team GB face a tough ask to qualify from the group stages of the men's hockey as they still search for their first win of the Games.

Bobby Crutchley’s side drew their second game with New Zealand 2-2 to leave them 5th in the standings with three games to go.

The top four proceed to the quarter-finals.
