Norwich City completed their first signing of the summer this afternoon, with talented Spanish winger Sergi Canós making the move to Carrow Road.

The 19-year-old was offered a new contract at Liverpool but decided to move on in the pursuit of first team football.

Here's a look at what Canaries fans can expect from Canós in the years to come.

Canós is a product of Barcelona’s famous La Masia Academy and played for the club at various youth levels.

At the age of 16, he signed for Premier League giants Liverpool and soon became a key player in their under 18s and under 21s teams.

Canós was given his first taste of senior football in The Championship when he agreed to move to Brentford on loan last summer.

After initially struggling to break into the side, he soon found his feet and was a regular by the turn of the year – prompting the Bees to extend his loan until the end of the season.

During his time in West London, he scored seven goals in 39 appearances and was rewarded with his first outing for Liverpool’s first team on the final day of the campaign at West Brom.

What type of player is he?

Canós is a quick and direct winger who likes to take on players and get crosses into the box.

He’s undoubtedly still very raw, but has a touch of class about him and should thrive in a team pushing for promotion.

Brentford manager Dean Smith described him as a “breath of fresh air” at Griffin Park last year but admitted he’s still learning the game.

Canaries fans might have to be patient with him but there’s no question they’ve got a player with big potential.

Well, the answer is they don’t really want to.

Canós has been in dispute with Liverpool all summer about a proposed new contract, with the Spaniard rumoured to have asked for £10,000 a week.

The Reds have a policy where they don’t pay their young players such an amount at that age, meaning that Canós has decided to look elsewhere.

Canós is far more likely to get first team minutes at Carrow Road, so Norwich are in more of a position to justify paying that sort of wage.
