The Clacton MP Douglas Carswell was booed as he tried to thank the Prime Minister in Parliament today.

The UKIP MP was trying to commend David Cameron during PMQs for allowing last week's referendum, but was drowned out by jeers from the House.

That prompted the Speaker of the House John Bercow to intervene as Carswell waited for his fellow MPs to quieten down.

"The Honourable Gentleman will be heard and it is about us and this place and he will be heard," Speaker Bercow said.

Carswell has since tweeted about the incident and said he was simply calling for unity on both sides of the referendum debate.
