Baron and Leadsom expected to launch Conservative leadership bids
Two MPs from our region are expected to put their names forward to become the next Conservative leader.
Nominations open today, and Basildon and Billericay MP John Baron and South Northamptonshire MP Andrea Leadsom are believed to be in the running.
David Cameron will step down in the autumn following the UK's decision to leave the EU, and attention has now turned to his replacement.
Leadsom is considered to be among the favourites following her impressive TV debate performances in the lead-up to the referendum, and is currently at 10/1 with some bookmakers.

Boris Johnson - 5/4
Theresa May - 11/8
Stephen Crabb - 7/1
Andrea Leadsom - 10/1
Liam Fox - 16/1
Priti Patel - 40/1
Baron is a long-term Eurosceptic and played a key role in getting the Conservatives to commit to a referendum after he presented a letter to the Prime Minister which was signed by more than 100 MPs.
He is said to be considering his options after he was encouraged to run for the leadership.
Despite that, he is considered as an outside bet compared to the other candidates.
Those interested in the position will have 24 hours to come forward while a final result is expected in September.
Boris Johnson and Theresa May look to be the frontrunners to land the job.
