More than a thousand children were evacuated from four schools in Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire following a series of suspected bomb hoaxes across the country.

Children at the Voyager Academy in Peterborough were affected, as well as those from Discovery Primary School and Mayfield Primary School in the city.

The hoax also hit Wootton Upper School in Bedfordshire.

Pupils were sent home and parents sent e-mails reassuring them everyone was safe.

Other schools across the UK were also evacuated due to similar threats, with one school in Kent reporting they received a call threatening to 'behead children'.

A spokesman from Bedfordshire Police said they had to take the threat seriously.

A Cambridgeshire police spokesman said they believe the threats were a hoax and believed to be part of a series of threats at schools across the country that have taken place throughout the year.
