Woman suffers burns after hot air balloon 'burst into flames' in Northamptonshire
A woman in her 20s is in hospital with serious burns this evening after the hot air balloon she was in burst into flames and crashed near Northampton.
It happened just after 7.30 this morning at Earls Barton - in a field next to the B573.
Eyewitnesses at a nearby car-boot sale reported seeing flames on the balloon before it dropped from the sky and hit the ground behind the trees.
The 22-year-old passenger who was on board was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for treatment.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch are now trying to find out what caused the crash.
"We are aware of the incident and are now making enquiries," they told ITV News Anglia in a statement.
There was also a power cut in the local area that affected as many as 2000 homes.
It's thought it was caused when the balloon hit electricity lines.
