Even by the standards of the topsy-turvy British climate, this spring has seen a remarkable change of fortunes.

Just over a week ago, snow was reported in many parts of the region. There was enough snow in Corby to build a snowman. Even on the first day of May, winter maintained its grip with temperatures as low as -3ºC at Santon Downham on the Norfolk / Suffolk border.

This past week, northerly winds have been replaced by southerlies. Wintry showers have been replaced by blazing sunshine.

The heat peaks this weekend with temperatures reaching the mid-20s - ten degrees above average for early May.

There'll be some cloud in the sky for a time on Saturday but temperatures will still reach the mid-20s.

Sunday will be both sunnier and warmer as the heat peaks across the region.

It will certainly be the warmest weekend of the year so far. However, the fine weather comes with the usual health warnings. UV levels will be high, levels of tree pollen will be high and air quality could be poor in places.

Also, as the heat peaks on Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon, there is the risk of thundery outbreaks - mainly across western parts of the region such as Northamptonshire. The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning.
