Inquest hears seven-year-old girl killed in bouncy castle accident died of multiple injuries
The opening of inquest into the death of seven-year-old girl Summer Grant who was killed when a bouncy castle blew away at an Easter Fair in Harlow has found she died from multiple injuries.
Summer Grant, of Hellesdon, Norwich, was treated at the scene by paramedics but died later in nearby Princess Alexandra Hospital from multiple injuries after the incident on Saturday 26 March in Harlow Town Park.
Chelmsford Coroner's Court was told that Summer was at the funfair with her father Lee Grant.
Coroner's officer Nicholas Hale said: "Summer was on a bouncy castle when it appeared some high winds got up and lifted it up with her on it and blew it some distance away."
A post mortem has given a provisional cause of death as multiple injuries.
Both Essex Police and the Health and Safety Executive are carrying out investigations, the inquest was told.
Essex senior coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray said she would need copies of both reports.
Mrs Beasley-Murray expressed her sympathy to the family, describing the incident as "a really dreadful tragedy".
The event in Harlow was organised by Thurston Fun Fairs.
Essex Police stated after the incident that a woman, 24, and a man, 27, have both been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence and had been bailed.
Park railings are festooned with rows and rows of flowers and soft toys.
A candlelight vigil was held on Saturday 9 April in memory of the little girl who attended Valley Primary School in Hellesdon.
