Legacy of London 2012: Handball takes hold in region
The London Olympics showcased the sport of Handball to many people in the UK for the first time.
Since the summer games four-years-ago participation levels in the sport have continued to grow rising according to Sport England, particularly among women and girls.
It's proving to be particularly popular in our region with the women's team at Cambridge Handball Club is one step away from playing at National level for the first time.
The Copperbox proved to be a popular venue when Team GB competed in Olympic Handball for the first time at London 2012.
But funding through the governing body UK Sport wasn't maintained for the performance squads. Enthusiasts are thankful it hasn't been cut at the grassroots.
The girls playing the sport say they're attracted by the fast paced, physical nature of the game.
All of which has added to the growth in the sport's popularity.
While Cambridge boasts two clubs in the city, including the defending University champions, there are others in Peterborough, Cranfield in Bedfordshire and Stansted, Norwich and Ipswich.
