Chancellor plans for East to have an elected mayor
The Chancellor’s announced an ambitious £900 million investment in the East over the next 30 years.
It includes a draft devolution deal which would see the region get an elected mayor covering Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The Mayor will head the new East Anglia Combined Authority.
£151million of investment is being promised to fund the Ipswich Wet Dock Crossing and the Lowestoft 3rd Crossing.
The government are also promising major investment in strengthening the region’s specialisms in science and research.
That includes £50 million to help build a new world-leading centre for food and health research, called the Quadram Institute, at the Norwich Research Park.
The plans have been welcome by the leader of Norfolk County Council George Nobbs
