Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire is now a world leader in a new heart transplant technique.

The method which is already established for other organs has increased heart transplantation at the hospital by 50% since it launched in Spring.

It's set to increase transplantation across the UK alone by 30%. Papworth hospital has now performed more cases than any other in the world.

Tom Shing had his transplant in April and ever since he's been living the active life he should at 24.

The new technique uses organs from patients whose hearts have stopped beating. The conventional method uses donors who are brain stem dead, but whose hearts are still beating.

Since March, they've done ten non-beating heart transplants at Papworth, against twenty using conventional donors.
