Northampton businessmen declare interest in buying Northampton Town
The takeover saga surrounding Northampton Town has taken another twist after four Northampton-based businessmen declared their interest in buying the club.
The quartet, who include the club's former chairman Barry Stonhill and ex Northampton South MP Brian Binley, say that they are confident of striking a deal to save the Cobblers from administration.
Who are the men?
Barry Stonhill - A successful estate agent and former director at Northampton Town. He then took over as chairman in 1998 before stepping down in 2002.
Brian Binley - The Northampton South MP for a decade. Didn't stand for the last general election due to health reasons.
David Jackson - A former director at the club before he resigned in June 2015.
Barry Hancock - A current director at the club. He's been at Sixfields since 1992.
The men aren't the only interested parties, with former Swindon Town chairman Jed McCrory also believed to be keen on completing a takeover.
Businessmen Kelvin Thomas had looked to be the frontrunner, but speaking to ITV News Anglia yesterday, he suggested that he was getting frustrated with how long things were taking.
Now, it's emerged that the Northampton-based men have also thrown their hat into the ring as time ticks on ahead of next Friday's administration petition hearing.
