Contemporary sculpture of Edith Cavell unveiled in Belgium
A new sculpture has been unveiled in Belgium as events take place to mark 100 years since the execution of nurse Edith Cavell by a German firing squad.
The Norfolk born nurse who was educated in Peterborough became a national heroine for saving the lives of allied soldiers during the 1st World War, by helping them escape occupied Belgium.
She was eventually found out, arrested and later executed by firing squad at dawn on the 12th October 1915.
Edith Cavell was 49-years old.
