Milton Keynes is celebrating a wonderful introduction to international rugby. For the third successive match, Stadium MK has attracted a record attendance.

The latest came in last night's Pool A game between Fiji and Uruguay, which Fiji won 47-15.

The crowd was 30, 048 - beating the previous record established when 29,145 saw the Japan-Samoa game last week.

That had beaten the previous best crowd of 28,145 for a game between France and Canada.

The Milton Keynes fanzone has also proved very popular with rugby fans. 25,000 have attended at Campbell Park, which is open for three more days.

This World Cup is on course to be the biggest tournament to date with over 2.41m tickets sold so far.

The records achieved at Stadium MK follow on from those already achieved at Wembley Stadium, where the biggest Rugby World Cup crowd of all time saw Ireland take on Romania.

Last night's match was also notable for a World Cup first. Uruguay scrum-half Augustin Ormaechea became the first player to be sent off in this year's competition. He collected two yellow cards.

Neither Fiji nor Uruguay have qualified for the quarter-finals. Uruguay at least had the consolation of scoring two tries against Fiji - the first they'd scored in the World Cup for 12 years.

Well over one million fans have now attended Rugby World Cup 2015 matches, with 500,000 more attending Official fanzones across the country.

Now Stadium MK will revert to its more usual football role. On October 17th, MK Dons will play Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.
