Northampton journalist arrested in Turkey
A journalist from Northampton has been charged with terrorism offences in Turkey. Vice News Correspondent Jake Hanrahan was arrested with British cameraman Philip Pendlebury and a Turkish colleague who has not been named.
They were in the south-east region of Diyarbakir filming clashes between the police and youth members of the Pro-Kurdistan Workers' Party when they were arrested on Thursday. Yesterday they were charged with "working on behalf of a terrorist organisation" in Turkey, allegedly so-called Islamic State'. They are due to stand trial in the Turkey.
Vice News says the accusations are "baseless and false", and that it condemns in the strongest possible terms the Turkish government's attempts to "silence our reporters who have been providing vital coverage from the region."
Amnesty International has called for the immediate release of all three journalists.
A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said it is providing consular assistance and is in touch with "the relevant authorities".
